Swamps, Grasses, and Reeds

As you are aware I'm working on a base for the Dragon Lizard. Being the cautious careful type I decided to try out my reeds on a test base before messing up the "good" one.

That was a good idea. Look at that mess. They're too tall, too yellow, and too just "not good enough". So I started throwing some paint around, mostly Dryad Bark, Loren Forest, and Moot Green, and slowly things started to look a bit more organic. Then the OCD hit, and now we're painting grass...

Other problems that have come to my attention: how I'm going to get square corners on the resin pour!

I haven't updated in ages, mostly because my schedule has changed and I've had visitors. 

Here's what's been going on. I've been working on this awesome Dragon Lizard by RAFM Miniatures. The date stamp on the bottom is 1985 and it also says R. Murch. With the magic of google I managed to find out who R. Murch is. Turns out he`s a prolific sculptor who, according to the lost mini wiki, was a primary sculptor at RAFM for 20+ years. Looks like he also did work for a bunch of other companies, but now runs his own called Pulp Figures. The sculpts appear to be true 28mm, so you`d better bring your A game if you want to paint his stuff. There`s a large variety of things to choose from but for me Heroes and Personalities and Weird Menace both have some cool looking stuff.

Bob and RAFM are both Canadian (which is awesome), and is probably why I found the Dragon Lizard while visiting Calgary, (The Sentry Box). The dragon is almost done and I've decided to do a water base for him. His head will be poking out of some reeds. Like he's stalking some prey.

I'm hoping to make the stream bed look like mud and clay. To do this I'm using very thinly sliced cork. Then I'll build up the right side to make the bank higher. For the water I'm going g to try 2 part epoxy. We'll see what happens. 

The base looks a bit crap right now, but I just wanted to build it up with the cork, once the glue dries there will be a bunch of trimming.

On the Workbench

There's always things going on behind the scenes and this weeks mid-week (it started mid-week) update is just to show what's on deck. In no particular order, some GW cultists, some Scibor Dwarves (plus gross zombie) and a gigantic Cockatrice!

I really like these guys, I'm thinking of doing a Star Wars "Sand People" kind of look with them. Particularly since they have all the right kind of masks and such.

 The next batch of Scibor Monstrous Miniatures is also coming along. The Dwarf Lords are pretty cool, they just need more cleaning and tome green stuff before priming.

Two weeks ago I was at a local shop and all the Games Workshop stuff was on for 50% off! I guess they're dropping it. Anyhow I did buy this giant Cockatrice. It's Citadel "Finecast", that everyone likes to hate, but it seems fine in this case, and at 50% off...

 The cockitrice needs a lot more green stuff, and I'm not totally stoked that it's staring at the ground, but I think that with some creative base work it might turn out alright.

I do have some actual painting work in progress, but it's a surprise.
