With that out if the way, I started on the other marine.
Step one is to block everything out and make it not shitty. At this stage neat work is your friend. That cape is begging for some gigantic freehand...
Once all that's done start with the chipping and scratches. Try to keep things in plausible locations, like toes, power fist knuckles, knee caps, corners of panels, etc. Also keep in mind the directional nature that fits with "normal" movement.
A power fist that's seen action. He's probably peeled open a tank with about as much effort as I can peel a banana.
The battlefield is hard on shoes.
Note scuff directions, this adds movement.
