Striped Trousers

Somehiw striped trousers make everything better... Or at least more football.

Even when he's pulling what amounts to a "back double bicep" bodybuilding pose, this figure reads like fun.

But really it's the striped trousers and grass stains that say Blood bowl. He's technically a half troll.

So there's some green in some or all of his skin. 

I dunno what star player he is, but that's the best part of BB, it doesn't really matter.

Stormcast Eternal WIP

Trying an new thing. 

Meet my first Stormcast Eternal. They're some kind of shiny guy I guess. I don't really know because I don't play the game, and I got him for free. If fact I stole his base for an old project, Ilkhan the Bloody, so I had to make this one. Turned out pretty cool. 

As we all know I'm addicted to fluorescent paint. So the orb is glowing, the real question that needs to be answered is, just how bright is it? With a proper white exposure on the shelf, the fluorescence saturates the detector!

It's actually yellow, but I've had too much coffee to take a shot that isn't shaky.

Remember, it you don't buy Lotto tickets you can't win, and if you don't try you'll never get better.

Tree Man, or is it Treeman? lol

  Whatever he's called, he's probably going to "take root", so you'd best put him on the line of scrimmage and resort to hope for anything more.

His tank like stat block makes him getting hurt about as likely as a Terminator giving a hug. Which is why he promply got turned into kindling after failing a 3 die block the last time I tried to use him. 

But hey, that's Blood Bowl, where the goal is to "not get mad", which is different than most games, where the goal is to "have fun".

Really, I'm not bitter about my Treeman dying, I'm bitter about everyone else dying, and losing the game. Really that's probably why I like painting and don't really play games, I'm a sore loser.

The Cupboard of Aging

That's where models go to "rest", while I consider all the decisions that led to their current status. 

If you are a model, it's probably not where you want to be. Its the Toy Story, box under the bed kind of thing. 

I don't plan for it to happen but sometimes you just run out of steam. This is one of those times.  We had a good run at it, then the light blue came out, then I decided I didn't want to deal with it.  

The cool thing about aging miniatures, is that like a good wine, they won't go bad, and when you're ready to enjoy them they'll be there. 

While painting minis is kinda like 3D coloring, it takes passion and excitement for cool things to happen. So always paint the figure that excites you the most. 

It's instant gratification, even in the initial stages of color blocking.

Have fun and don't sweat the small stuff.

Greebo Games WIP

Got out the good camera for a Nutzerker, high res. WIP.

Im not convinced that red is the right armor color. 

I'm quite sure its not popping enough. Maybe I'll try the black and white photo and see what it tells me.

Nutzerker

Today we did some priming and started painting "Nutzerker", the rabid squirrel.

He's apparently a star player. With strength 1 and dauntless, he's probably as likely to end up in the infirmary as cause any real damage. 

With that in mind he'd be a fine addition to my Snotling team. In an attempt to push the rabid theme, I'm using fluorescent green for the foam coming out of his mouth. Delicious.

More Blood Bowl

We're getting closer to paint!

That's a good thing when you have a plan. Golden demons? Probably be the only ones I ever own, so maybe. But I really want the humans to be unhealthy, so bluish undertones. 

I'm quite sure that these will not be red.

And these will not be overly gold, but the metallics will be real. 

Then the cultist, they need to look as Mad Max AF.  So that's the plan.  It's still a bit loose, to say the least.

Greebo's Reaper WIP

Greebo makes a pretty sweet reaper.

Naturally I bought two of them. One for me and one for my favorite painter, my brother. This one will be his, if he wants it.

I've gone for an animated vibe, so bright colors on the dice.

Red and orange and blue, with subtle blends of fluorescen for kick.

The dice are actually tan, buff, whatever, off white, but this shite camera can't pick it up under the spotlight. 

The little dude is going to be bone, (right now he's wearing a bit of speed paint to help me see where he's headed), leaning to cold tones in the shadows, and his cloak is TBD, but I'm thinking to blue-black.

Contrast Paint Rocks

I didn't intend to crank out 3 figures as fast as possible, it just kind of happened. How? It's really a combination of complementary techniques.

Start with a zenithal over gray, a simple palette (3 colors plus white), and selective use of contrast paint, that's it. The end result is super fast painting. Beside the face/head and body, all the annoying bits and bobs got a single pass of Contrast/SpeedPaint. 

This saves a huge amount of time and frees it up for the face and body. Sure I banged in a bunch of edge highlights and tried to pull off a NMM, but the time cost was free. 

In the above we're nearly complete, and it was super relaxing. Had I not tried a different fur scheme on one of them, I would have batch painted them in under 3 hours.

Here's what's up. 

The Snotlings pump wagons got some love. 

The beastmen got some "generic" basing. 

And the dice reapers got some rattle can love.

Blood Bowl Chaos Team

Well, we added some gore, slapped on some numbers, and hired a Troll from Papa Nurgle. Introducing The Warp Warriors.

The numbers are a bit sketchy, but the first guy painting them on got eaten, so the guy that finished them up was in a bit of a rush. 

The gore is subtle, one can always add more.

That's a wrap. With the exception of some touchups and matte varnish, (some day), I think this is done. I did all the numbers with oils, for easy fixing, so these need somewhere to rest and dry. Off to the cupboard of aging!

Blood Bowl Chaos Beastmen

"Just underpaint and then use Contrast paints" they said. "It's faster" they said.

I disagree. It's faster if your underpainting is really good. Otherwise you're just doing it twice... I'm still learning, so this is just a technique than needs some more practice.

I'm pretty sure that some parts were too dark. Because the contrast are so transparent you can never recover this loss without adding something opaque, like white. Doing this changes the value, and usually it's too bright, or you end up with a glaze, and then you're laying down a million coats.

Aggaros Dunes was a nice fast NMM gold. I'll be trying that again.

Cute?

HMP does cute!?

First time for everything. It was a lot harder than I expected. There's literally nowhere to hide your crimes. And the eyes demand some level of perfection.

Overall I think it was a valuable exercise. Remember,don't miss good while looking for perfect.

Palette Problems?

Some Goblin action! I've had this Reaper sculpt sitting around for ages, and the other day I started painting it with a limited pallet.

Ork Painboy

I had to take a break from the tiny stuff. So I painted an Ork dentist. 

It was a rapid affair, even though I only used primary red, blue, yellow, black and white. I also used 2 metallics. Honestly I think I can mix paint faster than I can dig it out sometimes. 

 

This is what the pallet looked like after the first session. Then today I did all the edge highlights and some touchups. 

I like Orks with choppy paint jobs. And if he was my dentist, I'd probably pass....

Goblin Shaman

 Goblin Shaman on a Wyvern!

He's looking badass. I went for something really bright with a lot of table presence. Make him pop and hard to miss. I didn't paint him this week, it was actually between the Trolls and Goblins.

Looking solid, provided I didn't blow the exposure...
